The Five Rise Locks are a must-see along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. They are the steepest staircase locks on the longest canal in the country, and one of the Canal & River Trust seven wonders of the waterways.
When completed in 1774, thousands gathered to watch the first boats make the 60 foot descent. Now, over 200 years later, the flight is still in daily use providing access to 16 miles of lock-free cruising on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in the glorious scenery of the Yorkshire Dales.
The Five Rise Locks Cafe located at the top of the locks was originally a stable block for the horses that pulled the barges on the canal.
Since taking ownership in August 2011, we are now a family run business and all Bingley born and bred. Marcus, along with wife Anne and daughters Kate and Olivia, we are committed to ensuring the cafe brings together our Bingley community, and welcomes tourists from all over the world.
We welcome all visitors to the cafe, and do our best to cater for all requirements – including our famous dog ice cream!
Baby changing facilities and wheelchair access is available. Debit and credit/contactless payment accepted.
